The previous issues section at A List Apart was a simple list of the most recent 20 articles, with headlines and a brief synopsis. To access earlier articles, users had to browse through the previous issues’s title pages, which listed articles one or two at a time. The articles weren’t cross-referenced, so users had to browse through all of the issue title pages to find articles on a particular topic.

I added a dropdown list to filters article by category, added the capability to browse the article list in groups of 30 issues, and expanded the original list to include all of the previous articles. Also, I hand-coded the XHTML files and new CSS styles.

The site has since redesigned, but the current version of the archives retains the features I introduced.
